The Phuket Invitational is fast becoming established as one of the
most glamorous and exclusive events in the international sailing calendar. Now in its sixth year, the 2005
event involved exciting daily sailing events and afternoon cocktail parties aboard some of the
participating Superyachts, all culminating in an exclusive gala dinner, held at the luxurious
Amanpuri
resort.
This year the Amanpuri hosted the exclusive Phuket Invitational Beach Party and provided a delicious buffet
banquet and great entertainment. Sponsors and organisers presented prizes to winning participants and the
evening ended in guests dancing to the sounds of locally acclaimed band Deja vu.
Guests also enjoyed exclusive sunset cocktail parties on board the Maid Marian II to celebrate her 75th
anniversary and the Aman Cruise yacht M/Y Maha Bhetra. Crews from participating Superyachts and sponsors
tested their boat-building ability in the fun Feadship Challenge, when they were asked to make and sail a
model boat from a simple kit down a short course.
"The Invitational is a unique occasion", comments Hein Velema, Marketing Manager of principal
sponsor Feadship. "As the world's premier yacht builder, we welcome the initiative. Every year many
of our yachts visit the Pacific Rim and all return with exciting stories and experiences. We hope that the
Phuket Invitational encourages still more Feadships to discover the new cruising grounds in Asia." |
